** ST-02: Industry Response to Counterfeits: Standards Developed for Manufacturers and Integrators
Class Overview
Industry has responded to the possibility of counterfeit electronic parts entering the supply chain by writing standards to address counterfeit risk mitigation. The standards define the requirements, practices and methods when purchasing, receiving inspecting, and testing electronic parts as well as how an organization should respond when they discover suspect or counterfeit electronic parts.

There are several standards available for use by organizations such as manufacturers and integrators such as:

  • SAE AS5553: Counterfeit Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition
  • SAE AS6462: AS5553A, Fraudulent/Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition Verification Criteria
  • SAE AS6174: Counterfeit Materiel; Assuring Acquisition of Authentic and Conforming Materiel
  • SAE ARP6328: Guideline for Development of Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition Systems
  • IEC TS 62668-1: Process management for avionics - Counterfeit prevention - Part 1: Avoiding the use of counterfeit, fraudulent and recycled electronic components
  • IEC TS 62668-2: Process management for avionics - Counterfeit prevention - Part 2: Managing electronic components from non-franchised sources
The class will cover:

  • A comparison of the standards listed above: SAE AS5553, SAE AS6462, SAE AS6174, SAE ARP6328, IEC TS 62668-1 and IEC TS 62668-2.
  • Specific requirements for SAE AS5553, SAE AS6462, SAE AS6174, SAE ARP6328, IEC TS 62668-1 and IEC TS 62668-2.
  • Available accreditation programs such as Counterfeit Avoidance Accreditation Program (CAAP) for the standards.
